WordShell 1.3.123 released

WordShell 1.3.123 has been released.

This release focuses on various minor tweaks and bugfixes, including:

  • Add –tables switch for search and replacing only specific tables (not all)
  • Plugin name comparisons are now case-insensitive
  • An error is printed if –getconfig is erroneously used together with a site name (–getconfig is for global over-rides)
  • Better detection of different Cygwin environments
  • Overcome the “WP maintenance mode” plugin – i.e. stop it from interfering with CLI operations
  • Overcome some situations where a WP site is outputting extraneous white-space – stop this from breaking the communications protocol.
  • Prevent an unnecessary/merely cosmetic HTTP message being displayed when using lftp and checking on theme update status

This was our first release for 11 months. This basically reflects the product’s maturity. We, as have many others, have been using it throughout that time to manage and maintain a vast number of WordPress installs. It just works. We hope that you’ll find the same with this latest release!

Changing to use WooCommerce

In order to comply with EU VAT laws coming in on 1st January, we’re having to ditch the current e-commerce plugin used on this site (Cart66 Lite). Sadly, there’s no solution for making that plugin to be EU VAT compliant, that we know of.

We’ve now launched WooCommerce to handle our sales – and from 1st January 2015, all being well, will be handling EU VAT correctly too, using our sister company’s EU VAT Compliance plugin for WooCommerce.

Otherwise, everything else should continue the same – and your downloads will be available from the same place as before (the ‘subscription updates’ entry on the menu at the top of each page of the site).

WordShell 1.3.109 released – should be good for everyone

WordShell 1.3.109 has been released. This enhances your WordShell experience in three main ways:

  1. Fixes a few corner-case little bugs (which you probably never came across, but might in future!)
  2. Adds the –ignorenamechange parameter, to stop WordShell asking you to confirm that it’s OK that the name of the plugin you are updating has changed (e.g. from “Mike’s Contact Form” to “Contact Form by MikeCo”.
  3. The main new feature: the –user mode switch (for adding, deleting and listing users).

We recommend this update for everyone – the code changes are all non-intrusive, and you should only gain from it. As ever, subscribers can download the updated version from the updates page.

The latest WordShell update is out – get it now from the subscribers’ page.

The main reason for releasing this now is because it has a few compatibility fixes for FreeBSD/Mac users. Please do update if you were particularly affected by those issues.

A few other minor features have appeared – see the full changelog at: https://wordshell.net/support/changelogs/.
